Michal Cifra heads the Bioelectrodynamics Research Team at the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the Czech Academy of Sciences, where he works at the interface of physics, engineering, and biology. His research focuses on the electromagnetic properties of living systems and on engineering electromagnetic field–biomatter interactions at the molecular and nanoscale levels — proteins, microtubules, cytoskeletal dynamics, chemiexcitation, biochemiluminescence, and ultra-weak photon emission. His team combines advanced electromagnetic concepts, micro- and nanotechnology tools, computational modelling, and experiment to probe and influence biosystems at the biomolecular level. He is driven by translating fundamental discoveries into biomedical and biotechnological applications, while building the Biophotoniq innovation ecosystem for global impact in healthcare.
